In a letter to members of Congress, the Alliance of Safety-Net Hospitals has asked legislators to prevent implementation of the additional four percent Medicare sequestration cut scheduled to take effect on January 1, to reverse the proposed reduction of Medicare payments to physicians; and to mandate improvements in the manner in which Medicare Advantage plans handle prior authorization for the care their members need.
Community safety-net hospitals need these changes to ensure their continued ability to meet the needs of their patients and provide access to care for the low-income, medically vulnerable residents of the communities they serve.
