In response to changes the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has proposed in Medicare’s inpatient prospective payment system, the Alliance of Safety-Net Hospitals has submitted formal comments to the federal agency sharing its views on those proposed changes.

In its letter, ASH addresses CMS proposals governing proposed Medicare inpatient rates, Medicare disproportionate share (Medicare DSH) payments, the proposed continuation of the low-wage hospital policy, Medicare wage index treatment of hospitals reclassified as rural, reasonable cost payment for nursing and allied health education programs, and health equity.

ASH also responded to CMS’s request for information on how best to define and identify safety-net hospitals.
