Enrollment in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) increased by six million people between October of 2013 and April of 2014.
Most of these new enrollments were driven by Medicaid expansion authorized by the Affordable Care Act, and the increase of six million participants represents half of the Medicaid and CHIP enrollment increase expected through the end of 2016.
Learn more about where the increases are occurring, why they are occurring at different rates in different states, and more from the new Urban Institute paper “Measuring Medicaid/CHIP Enrollment Progress Under the Affordable Care Act,” which can be found here.
