The Alliance of Safety-Net Hospitals has unveiled its 2024 advocacy agenda.

Items on the agenda include:

  • Preventing scheduled cuts in Medicaid disproportionate share (Medicaid DSH) allotments to the states.
  • Urging policymakers not to require Medicare outpatient payments to be made on a site-neutral basis.
  • Monitoring the potential development of definitions of “safety-net hospitals” to ensure that they capture the appropriate hospitals.
  • Advocating and supporting health care policies that promote health equity.
  • Protecting the section 340B prescription drug discount program.
  • Ensuring the continued ability of states to use state-directed payments through Medicaid managed care to help finance their Medicaid programs.

Other issues addressed in ASH’s 2024 advocacy agenda include workforce shortages, behavioral health services, climate change, measures of community benefit, and hospital mergers and acquisitions.

And as always, ASH will continue to respond to federal policy initiatives with implications for the nation’s community safety-net hospitals.
